Using linked data we aim to build a course explorer application providing all the course related data such as job opportunities, module details, location, and etc.

We are currently designing and implementing the application for viewing link data. Although not fully implement, some data sources can be viewed. It displays course information which is generated based on xcri rdf and ordnance geographic rdf. We have planned to add job opportunities by building and linking rdf data from feeds of the Prospects web site. Our next step is to convert the module information from both the legacy data base and current employment statistics spreadsheet into linked data before integrating with the course RDF.

We have constructed initial course linked data leaving some room to extend the data with more university and external resources.

The draft version of RDFS can be viewed or downloaded from here.

To query sample data, you can use this SPARQL endpoint: http://luci.uwl.ac.uk/openrdf-workbench/repositories/luci/query.

Building Course Xcri Data and Linked Data

Using a few useful tools including Hibernate and Jena Framework, course XCRI CAP data and course linked data have been implemented. The overall technical approach of the implementation is depicted in the below picture.

Course data is imported on weekly basis to generate latest course advertisement in xcri cap format.
The generated Xcri data is serialized into a file and stored in LUCI repository to provide feed.
Course data is also transformed into course linked data using our own rdf schema and linking presentation venue with geographic data of government.

The linked data will be extended with some more data including related external links as well as university own data, such as bus stop, local entertainments, and etc. At the moment we are identifying available university sources including module specifications, staff research activities to publish them into RDF format and link with course linked data.

Sample course XCRI-CAP is now available.

We have implemented the transformation of the UWL course data into xcri data format. The xcri sample data can be downloaded from the LUCI server. The transfromation architecture and details will also be shared soon.

Welcome to LUCI project web site. The main aim of the project is to provide UWL course data in XCRI format. We also aim to provide additional course data together with associated peripheral information such as transport, location, labour market, finance and learning resources, destination leaver employment data, placement or internship data etc. in a linked data format. The project will investigate and prototype the implementation of technologies and practices for exposing and linking course data for students as well as surveying students to understand their data needs or desires.
