Project Members

Dr Samia Oussena is a Reader in Software Engineering at the University of West London and has a research background in methodologies and software application development. Samia was the principal investigator of MCMS project and its realisation and benefit project and co-investigator and project manager of IDS-HE (Intelligent Decision Support system for High Education). Samia has also been involved in COVARM, Cova, Pspex, Remora, and Rudiment JISC projects. Samia is a member of JISC EA practice group and is supervising two PhD students whose work is related to the EA area and semantic web.

Professor Peter Komisarczuk is Head of the School of Computing and Technology at UWL. He leads the Centre for Networks and Distributed Systems and the UWL e-assessment group. Previously he has led the work experience component of IT and engineering degree students at Victoria University of Wellington being one of the founders of the cooperative internship programme “the Wellington Summer of Code/Technology”. He practices research led teaching and applies his industrial experience in the network industry to providing industrially oriented assessment. His research, consultancy and teaching primarily include networks, Internet security and distributed systems.

Liz Sokolowski is programme leader for Full Time UG Computing courses at the University of West London. She has a background in database design and management and is a member of the Model Driven Software Engineering research group at UWL. Her research interests focus on the use of technology in education, with specific emphasis on using IT to support increasing student diversity in higher education.

Hyeonsook Kim is a Research Assistant in Software Engineering at the University of West London and has a research background in methodologies and software application development. Hyeonsook has been involved in the MCMS project as a main research developer and contributed to design and development of the course mining system. Hyeonsook also studies her PhD on modelling of Enterprise Architecture with complex event processing.

Andrea Collard is the Team Leader for the Central Marketing Team at the University. Her role includes planning strategic marketing and recruitment campaigns for the undergraduate, postgraduate and FE markets for each of the eight Schools. Her team also looks after the designing and printing of all promotional materials to support the Schools and University-wide projects and events.

Paul Hopkins is currently interim IT Director at UWL. He has been IT Director at De Montfort University and Newcastle University previously. He has been PI on at least 5 major JISC Projects in Identity Management, ePortfolios, Enterprise Architecture and SOA and a review of early adopters of cloud computing and shared services. He has been Chair of the Russell Group of IT Directors, Chair of UCISA Procurement Group and also has been a member of the HEFCE Shared Services Advisory Board.

Prof Kath Mitchell is Pro Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Services). She has extensive experience of collaborative research bids (Wellcome Trust) and substantive expertise in management of the student experience, from both an academic and administrative perspective.

Mark Garratt is currently Director of Marketing, Communications and Recruitment for the University of West London. He has spent over 24 years in Marketing and Business Development in a variety of high profile private and public sector organisations. He is a specialist in CRM implementations and change programmes. In his early years he was Head of Product Development for NatWest Life Assurance, Marketing Director for Principality Building Society in Wales and UK Head of Customer Management for Royal & Sun Alliance (and responsible for leading Customer Management for the launch of MORETH>N), before running his own CRM consultancy, helping over 30 companies worldwide to develop effective customer management and marketing practices. He was instrumental in setting up Confused.com, which was subsequently sold to Admiral Insurance before taking up an interim management career with roles such as Project Director for Open University, Head of Customer Management for Royal Bank of Scotland Plc, Head of National Marketing for Yell Group Plc, Head of Finance Partners for British Airways plc and Director of Marketing, Communications and Sales for City University London.
